What is grace?

May 26, 2019 Sermon Preview

Are you smarter than a third grader?

Prove it.

Answer this: What is grace?

Our baptismal students can answer this question. Can you?

The fifth sermon in our summer series examines God’s free gift of love that we do not deserve and cannot earn.

Scripture

“But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died for the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!”

–Romans 5:15 (NRSV)

Sweet Truth #5:

Grace: the free, unearned, beautiful gift of God’s love, forgiveness, empowerment, and blessing, especially given in Jesus. When we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we receive the wonderful gift of God’s grace–now and forever!

Because God is loving and gracious, we receive forgiveness for our sins, strength to do God;’s will, and blessings to encourage us to live Christian lives, always. This is good news!

By the way, the old-fashioned word, “gospel” means good news.

We all need God’s grace, very much, and especially in Jesus, we are given that precious gift. We did not earn it, and sometimes, we don’t deserve it, but God is so good that he love us unconditionally and gives us his amazing grace, especially when we believe in Jesus!
