Spirituality and existentialism

“We do not know how to pray as we ought.” (Romans 8:26)

There was a profound moment at this morning’s prayers breakfast. When it came their turn to pray, one of our group members began, “Dear God…” After a pregnant pause they continued, “…I don’t know.”

Sometimes situations are complicated, our grief is raw, and we are unable to muster the right words. Fortunately, God searches our hearts and is able to make sense of our prayers even in times like that. Paul reminds us that Holy Spirits intercedes for us even when we cannot do so ourselves.
