Journeying with a God of Movement (Matthew 28:16-20)

October 23, 2022 Sermon

First Christian Church (DOC): Dexter, Missouri

Disciples Identity Series: Our denomination’s identity statement says, “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”

For the next four weeks we are looking at what this means and how it might help us better explain who we are as the First Christian Church in Dexter. Today’s sermon examines what it means to be a movement committed to following Jesus wherever he might lead us. We were also reminded that movements require more than individuals. All of the body of Christ must be in this together.

Matthew 28:16-20: Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him, but they doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.(NRSV)
