The first lap is complete

Previous leg: Lamar to Kimberling City

Memories of winter: taking off from Kimberling City.

The most recent leg of the Missouri Flight Simulator tour took me across the southern tier of counties and back home to Dexter. The first lap of the state has now been completed. Starting in Kimberling City, I flew 188 nautical miles in 2.3 hours, touching down at six airports along the way.

The route went straight over the most scenic part of the state. Southern Missouri is home of the Ozarks and contains lots of beautiful lakes and fairly rugged hills. Flying in simulated late February meant that there was still plenty of snow on the ground. This made the grass strip landing at Gainesville Memorial Airport somewhat challenging. The runway was fairly slick and the plane did not want to come to a stop.

The first lap of the state took me 1,268 around the perimeter of Missouri in 15.85 hours of flying time. The process took longer than I had expected. There were a couple of crashes along the way, but most importantly, I had a lot of fun using FSX to learn about the geography of my newly adopted home state.

Where it all began: returning to Dexter after 1,268 nm around the perimeter of Missouri

Next leg: Dexter to Piedmont
