FSX: winter flying in Indiana

Crossing the snow line south of Indianapolis

For my first simulator flight of 2023 I decided to pick up where my last cross country flight had left off, at Barnes Farm in Burna, Kentucky. From there I headed northeast towards Indianapolis on an instrument flight plan in a Cessna 172. Shortly after I crossed the Ohio River I ran into snowy weather and had to stay under the clouds to avoid icing. Most of my virtual flying is low and slow sight seeing, so the challenge of following IFR procedures is a fun change of pace.

Layla, my fuzzy co-pilot

The flight was occasionally interrupted by an unruly passenger. Layla, our ten month old kitten, spent some of the time curled up on my lap before deciding that birds outside the window were far more interesting. Periodically, I had to shoo my copilot out of the way of the monitor, but her advice and vast aviation expertise ensured a safe landing two hours later.
