Veteran’s Sunday (Nov. 10, 2024)
First Christian Church, Frankford, Missouri
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, I was invited by the Disciples of First Christian Church (DOC) in Frankford, Missouri, to preach on Veterans’ Sunday. The congregation is a powerful group of people working constantly to make a difference in their small town. They support a food pantry, weekly after school program, and are heavily involved in the denomination’s older adult ministry program.
The sermon text was the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:1-8. On the first Sunday after the presidential election, the sermon focused on what it means to be a Christian citizen. Just as members of the military are taught to focus on the mission, I encouraged us all to refocus our efforts on living according to Jesus’ instructions in the Sermon on the Mount.
